Citizenship by Investment in Argentina
The Milei government is preparing a $500k citizenship by investment program.
Welcome Avatar! The Milei government will create an agency to grant citizenship to investors who invest in projects in Argentina worth more than US$500,000. Let’s go over what is known so far.
As part of Argentina’s new immigration policy that will come out in the upcoming weeks, another add-on will be incorporated: a decentralized structure within the Ministry of Economy dedicated to a citizenship by investment (CBI) program.
In a previous article, Upcoming Citizenship & Residency Changes, I speculated on the revenue potential for a CBI program, or a Golden Visa residency program for Argentina. In previous occasions in 2024, I have also laid out the positive impact such programs could have for Argentina with some officials in the Milei government, first through a tweet in July and later in person.
It looks like these suggestions, and even the suggested price point at $500k — which was based on CBI market research by Christian Nesheim from IMI Daily —, is now becoming a reality. The technical teams at the Casa Rosada are currently reviewing the final details to prevent the measure from being potentially blocked in court. The rest of the specific structure and requirements of the CBI program as known so far will be discussed below.
